Welcome to the Fifth Judicial District Court
Juror Orientation Website

DO NOT COMPLETE THE ONLINE ORIENTATION IF YOU ARE REQUESTING AN EXCUSAL

THIS ONLY APPLIES TO EDDY COUNTY

This site has been developed so that you can complete your jury orientation online. Our goal is to make your experience with The Fifth Judicial District Court a good one. You are a vital part of the Judicial process and are very appreciated. Thank you for using the jury orientation online; please read the following information:

Fifth Judicial District Court

All persons summoned for jury duty in the Fifth Judicial District Court in Eddy County must complete the
 jury questionnaire.

If you are 75 years of age or older you can be permanently excused from jury duty by completing an Affidavit of Age available from the jury clerk at the courthouse or online by clicking HERE. Please complete the form and return to the District Court Clerks office with your paperwork.

All persons summoned for jury duty in the Fifth Judicial District Court, who have not been excused, must participate in jury duty orientation.

In order to accommodate the schedules of potential jurors, jury duty orientation can be completed two different ways:

1.  You can attend the jury orientation in person at the district court (the date and time is included in your summons);

2.  You can view the jury duty orientation video online (before the orientation date at the district court) and submit the affidavit through this website stating that you have watched the video and understand your obligations.

NOTE: If you do not submit an affidavit of viewing the video or reading the transcript before the date of the jury orientation at the district court, YOU MUST ATTEND THE ORIENTATION IN PERSON.

If you attend jury orientation in person, a jury handbook and information about how to determine if you are to appear for jury duty is provided.

If you prefer to do the jury orientation by video or transcript, the Jury Handbook for the county in which you are summoned for jury duty is available HERE.

Whether you submit an affidavit via this website or attend jury orientation in person, a juror number will be assigned to you. This juror number is used every time to determine if you need to report to jury duty. To determine if you must report for jury duty, you must call the jury duty telephone number EVERY DAY after 6:00 p.m. to establish if your juror ID number must report for jury duty. The telephone number is 575-885-4740.

REMEMBER, do a final check of your jury duty status the night before, or the morning of, the day you are asked to report for jury duty. Occasionally, a trial may be cancelled and your attendance as a potential juror is not required that day. You can check either by telephone to the number listed above.

If you need to speak with a Jury Clerk, you can call 575-885-4740 ext(s) 112 or 100 or you can email cardalh@nmcourts.gov or cardmlh@nmcourts.gov
